A Guide to the Foundation

Not every plant wants the same world beneath its roots. Half a century of cultivation has taught us that matching a plant to its native environment is the secret to a thriving indoor sanctuary. Use this guide to select the perfect foundation for your collection.

All Purpose:

The Foundation Blend For the lush, the leafy, and the vibrant. Most tropical houseplants evolved on the forest floor in nutrient-rich, damp environments. Our All-Purpose blend uses sustainable coconut coir and living biology to mimic this moisture-retentive, high-energy ecosystem.

Best for: Monstera, Pothos, Philodendron, Fiddle Leaf Figs, and Ferns.

Orchid:

The Epiphyte Mix For the architectural plants that breathe through their roots. In the wild, orchids do not grow in the ground. They cling to trees, drawing moisture from the air. This mix prioritizes aeration over water retention, using premium fir bark to ensure roots never sit in stagnant water. It provides the structure required for healthy, consistent blooms.

Best for: Phalaenopsis, Cattleya, and high-climbing tropicals.

Cactus, Palm & Succulent:

The Arid Mix For the sun-seekers and drought-dwellers. Desert natives require a fast-draining, mineral-heavy environment to thrive. This grit-focused blend ensures that water moves through the pot quickly, protecting sensitive roots from rot. It provides the stability and drainage needed for plants that prefer to stay dry.

Best for: Jade, Snake Plants, Echeveria, Aloe, and Ponytail Palms.

A Note on Timing The best time to repot is during the active growing season, typically from early spring through late summer. If you see roots circling the bottom of your pot or notice water sitting on the surface of the soil, it is time for a fresh foundation.
